Regina police were called to North Central early Friday morning after a man who was admitted to the Regina General Hospital reported that he had been assaulted and forcibly confined.

Several police vehicles and the SWAT team surrounded a home in the 700 block of Elphinstone Street around 2:00 on Friday morning. Investigators believed  that there were firearms inside the house.

Shortly after police arrived three women and a man came out of the house and were taken into custody, but other suspects remained inside.

Residents in neighbouring homes were instructed to go into their basements while the operation unfolded.

The Explosives Disposal Unit and the SWAT team spent hours trying to get the remaining supsects out. Finally at 7:10 a.m., gas was deployed into the home and a man and woman came out and were taken into custody.

Traffic was restricted on Elphinstone Street for several blocks but has now been reopened.

Charges have not yet been laid.
