Cheese Candy

A cute appetizer that, when sealed, resembles a candy wrapper.

Makes 8

One 397 g package frozen puff pastry, thawed (such as TenderFlake)

10-15 ounces mild blue cheese, such as gorgonzola

1 pear, peeled, halved and cored

1 egg, beaten

8 tbsp liquid honey, for dizzling

Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

On a floured board or counter, roll out half the package (1 square) of puff pastry to 12” x 12”.

Using a knife or a pastry cutter, cut the pastry into 4 equal squares.

Cut the blue cheese into pieces about 3” long by 1” high.

Cut the pear halves into slices about 1/8” thick.

Brush one end of one of the squares with egg wash.

At the other end, place two pieces of pear. Top with a block of cheese then lay two pieces of pear on top of the cheese.

Beginning at the end with the cheese and pear roll the pastry up, enclosing the pastry completely around the cheese. Pinch the bottom closed. Twist the ends to seal and resemble a candy wrapper.

Repeat with the remaining three squares then repeat the process with the remaining block of puff pastry.

Bake for about 15 minutes, until golden brown. Drizzle each ‘wrapper’ with a tbsp of honey. Serve warm.
