CTV Regina has won a Radio and Television Digital News Association award for best newscast in a medium market.

The station received the prestigious Bert Cannings Award at a gala event Saturday in Toronto.

The award was in recognition of the comprehensive coverage of severe Prairie storms that swept through Saskatchewan last summer on the June 27 edition of CTV News at Six.

“I am very proud of our CTV News team,” said David Fisher, vice-president and general manager of CTV Saskatchewan.

“Each day I see their dedication to excellence. They are most deserving of this national honour.”

The broadcast featured the combined efforts of CTV News reporters across the province as they tracked storm locations, the mounting damage caused, the aftermath of a tornado, and the activities of international storm chasers.

“Timely, factual reporting that informs is always critical, especially when public safety is at risk,” said acting CTV Regina news director J.C. Garden.

“Thank you to the RTDNA for recognizing our efforts in that regard.”

In April, the same newscast was also the recipient of the Prairie region RTDNA award for best newscast in a medium market.
