Statistics Canada says Saskatchewan’s population could exceed 1.5 million by 2038.

The agency projects the province will have a population between 1.17 million and 1.52 million by that year.

In 2038, the proportion of seniors 65 and over in Saskatchewan is expected to be below the national average, varying between 19 per cent and 23 per cent.

Premier Brad Wall noted in a news release that the province has grown by more than 120,000 people in the past seven years. Wall said he expects Saskatchewan will continue to see strong growth in the years ahead.

“These projections show we are expected to keep growing and that’s a good thing,” Wall said in the release.

“There are many challenges that come with growth, but I would rather deal with those than the challenges of decline our province was facing just a few short years ago.”

More than 1.12 million people currently live in Saskatchewan.
