Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall says the province will provide $250,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief following the massive earthquake that devastated Nepal over the weekend.

“We are thinking about the people of Nepal as they deal with this terrible catastrophe,” Wall said in a news release Monday.

“The donation represents the goodwill of the people of Saskatchewan who understand how important it is to lend a helping hand when people are in distress.”

The death toll from Saturday’s magnitude-7.8 quake has surpassed 4,000 and more than 7,000 were injured. It’s estimated that tens of thousands of people have been left homeless.

“I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the people of Nepal and offer some measure of hope as relatives wait to find out what has happened to family members and friends,” Wall said.
