The Pump Roadhouse is stepping up security in the wake of last week’s shooting inside the nightclub.

All patrons and any items – including coats, bags, purses and backpacks – will now be subject to search by a metal detection device and/or pat down before being allowed in.

“For the short term, we have retained Impact Security, a well respected, bonded, and certified security company, to aid, train, and assist our in-house security staff for this coming weekend,” Pump owner Mark Smith said in a statement Thursday.

Smith says that by July 31, security staff at the nightclub will have training approved by Saskatchewan Justice. The training will be a prerequisite for any future security personnel hired by the Pump, he said.

Smith also says the Pump will continue to enforce the rules it has always had in place, including prohibiting weapons or any items deemed dangerous by security.

Regina police are continuing to investigate the shooting that left two men, ages 22 and 35, injured early last Friday. The 22-year-old victim has since been released from hospital, while the other man remains in hospital.

Officers searched the area after the shooting, but were unable to locate the male suspect. Police believe the suspect and one of the victims are known to each other.

Police say there are still no arrests in the incident, which is being treated as attempted murder.
