Two people are facing assault charges after an alleged incident at the Saskatchewan Legislative Building.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, Regina police were dispatched to the legislative building for a report of an assault.

Police say a man and a woman tried to get inside the building, and when two legislative security officers stopped the pair, a fight ensued and one of the officers was assaulted. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No one else was hurt in the incident.

A 32-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman, both from Regina, were taken into custody. The two are among three people who had been trying to gain access to the legislative building since Sunday, police said.

Colin Rich has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, two counts of assault, and obstructing a peace officer, while Gianina Susan Burnard faces a charge of assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm. Both are scheduled to make their first court appearance Thursday morning.
