Drivers will no longer have to wait for their registration papers to come in the mail when renewing online.

Vehicle registrations can now be printed at home on plain white paper, instead of special green paper at the registry. SGI customers will be able to access their registrations online and print them at any time, even if they didn’t renew online.

Customers who renew their registration at a registry office will soon receive white registration cards as well, SGI says when the current stock of green paper is used up, they will switch to plain white paper.

SGI expects to save $120,000 annually in paper costs by making the switch, and $400,000 in postage thanks to customers printing their registration at home.

SGI is also eliminating the owner’s address from the vehicle registration to help prevent home break-ins if the registration is stolen from the vehicle.
