A winter storm rolled through Saskatchewan overnight Tuesday and all day Wednesday.
Environment Canada issued wind warnings both days for most southern regions in the province as well as snowfall warnings in several east-central areas.
The province’s Highway Hotline was not recommending travel on several highways. Air Canada warned passengers in Saskatoon and Regina that flights may be delayed or cancelled because of strong winds, and RCMP reported numerous vehicle collisions across the province.
Mounties received more than 25 crash complaints between 6:30 and 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Several incidents involved vehicles losing control and sliding off the roadway, police said in a media release.
Most calls came in from the Saskatoon area and the southern regions of the province.
One crash, involving a semi, blocked traffic in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 southwest of Regina for several hours, according to RCMP. Another saw a school bus flip onto its side near Tisdale.
The strongest wind gusts Wednesday were measured at 95 kilometres per hour in the province’s southwest.
