Police are looking for a suspect after a woman was beaten and sexually assaulted at a park near downtown Regina.

The incident happened in Central Park at around 8 p.m. Friday night. A 27-year-old woman told police she was walking in the area when a man grabbed her and pulled her into a bunch of trees in the park.

The woman said the man physically and sexually assaulted her and, at one point, she lost consciousness.

When she came to, a pair of passersby helped her walk to the hospital, but she went to a nearby house instead. The next afternoon, the woman went to the hospital and police were called.

Authorities are looking for a man described as black, six-foot-four, bald and heavy set. He was wearing glasses, a light-blue golf shirt, blue track pants with white stripes and brown leather sandals.

Police say there is no indication at this point of increased risk to residents in the area. However, they are cautioning people to be more watchful and practice good personal safety strategies, especially when walking alone at night.
