A new Regina resident is in a coma after a violent stabbing on Thursday night.

The victim is a taxi driver, who was stabbed three times, once in the neck.

Police were called to the 2100 block of Park Street around 9:20 p.m., after numerous calls of a person in distress.

When police arrived, several people were at the scene, beside a parked taxi cab, trying to help the injured driver.

Police say it appears there was an altercation inside the taxi, which continued after the driver stopped and tried to get out of the vehicle.

When officers arrived, they found the driver and another man who was also hurt, but still able to walk. Both men were taken to hospital by EMS.

Meanwhile, police received information that there was another injured man in the area of Park Street and Abbott Street. The man was also transported to hospital by EMS.

Officers took a fourth man, who was reportedly behaving suspiciously, into custody at a business on the service road in the 900 block of Victoria Avenue East. The 20-year-old man did not need medical help.

One of the injured men, who is 22-years-old, was treated in hospital and released. The 31-year-old male taxi driver and a 24-year-old man remain in hospital.

The president of the cab company the victim worked for says the driver came to Canada three months ago with his wife and three year old son.

“They came for a better life, you don’t think it’ll happen like this. This is a nice country.” Daljit Singh told CTV News. “His wife is just crying.”

Police believe all four men are connected to the same incident, which is being investigated as attempted murder. Police say they need to investigate more to determine the men’s roles and culpability, if any.

Anyone with information that could help in the investigation is asked to contact Regina police or Crime Stoppers.
