Flood-ravaged municipalities in Saskatchewan are welcoming news that the deadline for Ottawa's economic stimulus plan is being pushed back by a construction season.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today that the new deadline is October 31st, 2011 instead of the end of March.

Harper says the move will allow for the completion of a small number of projects.

A number of Saskatchewan municipalities had feared that projects which were delayed by heavy summer storms would not be finished in time to meet the federal funding deadline.
