A rural Saskatchewan hospital that has been closed for about 18 months is set to reopen.

The hospital in Watrous was closed in August 2011 when a doctor shortage forced both the emergency department and acute-care unit to shut down.

Staff from the Watrous District Health Complex continued to provide outpatient, lab, home care and community-based services.

But the Saskatoon Health Region says two doctors have now been recruited and the hospital is ready to resume service next Tuesday.

Spokesman Graham Fast says the health region has been working hard since November to ensure a smooth reopening.
