One of the founding members of the Indian Posse street gang has died.
Richard Daniel Wolfe was found in the Saskatchewan Penitentiary’s exercise yard in need of medical attention on Friday. He was taken to Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, where he was pronounced dead around 10:40 p.m.
Wolfe was 40 years old and was serving a 26 year sentence for attempted murder, sexual assault, robbery and numerous other charges. He was let out on statutory release in 2010, but was charged with a violent sexual assault in Fort Qu’Appelle while on parole. On April 9, 2014, Wolfe turned himself in to police.
In January 2010, Wolfe’s brother Daniel was stabbed to death after a violent incident at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary. Two others were seriously injured. Six inmates were charged in his death. He was serving a life sentence after killing two people and wounding three others in a violent home invasion in Fort Qu’Appelle in 2007. In 2008, Daniel Wolfe was one of six men who escaped from a Regina jail after spending four months digging a hole through a wall. He was arrested in Winnipeg days after his escape.
A release from Correctional Service Canada said Richard Daniel Wolfe’s next of kin have been notified of his death. No other details have been released.
Correctional Service Canada notified police and the coroner and will review the circumstances of Wolfe’s death.
