A search is underway for a 23-year-old man who disappeared while swimming in Katepwa Lake.

RCMP say the man was swimming with friends at Katepwa Point on Tuesday afternoon when he swam past a buoy where the water dropped off and began to struggle.

The man’s friends and a bystander who witnessed the struggle all tried to rescue the man, who disappeared underwater.

Police searched the area, along with Saskatchewan Environment staff, the Fort Qu’Appelle Fire Department, STARS air ambulance and private boaters, but have not located the missing man.

An RCMP underwater recovery team is expected to arrive on scene Wednesday to assist in the search.
