As of Tuesday night, there is a new face leading the Saskatchewan New Democrats.

The NDP selected Nicole Sarauer as their new interim leader. She replaces Trent Wotherspoon, who stepped aside last week.

The Regina Douglas Park MLA is the first woman to lead the Saskatchewan NDP. The rookie member of the legislature was first elected in April 2016 and served as Deputy House Leader. She will assume the role of Opposition Leader immediately.

Sarauer says the NDP caucus is as determined as ever to fight Saskatchewan Party cuts, tax hikes and selloffs.

Sarauer will hold the position for one year, until a permanent leader is elected. Saskatoon Meewasin MLA Ryan Meili is the only announced candidate, although former interim party leader Trent Wotherspoon is also considering a leadership bid.
