The Regina Pats have traded 19-year-old forward Carter Ashton and a 2012 third-round draft pick to the Tri-City Americans.

In exchange, the Pats will acquire Americans forwards Tanner Olstad and Nils Moser, in addition to a first-round pick in the 2011 WHL Bantam draft and second- and fifth-round picks in the 2012 draft.

"These are always difficult moves to make," Regina Pats general manager Chad Lang said in a release.

"Carter has been a big part of our hockey club for this past year, so it's very difficult to see him move on but we felt it was important for our organization moving forward to make the deal."

Moser, 17, is in his second season with the Americans and has played 20 games so far this season. He was the Americans' second-round pick in the 2008 draft. Olstad, 18, is 20 games into his first full season with the Americans.

The Pats acquired Ashton from the Lethbridge Hurricanes, along with Craig Orfino and a third-round draft pick in exchange for Graham Hood, Taylor Balog, and two draft picks - one this year and another in 2011.
