RCMP are investigating a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian dead near the Ochapowace First Nation.

On Saturday night, police and emergency crews responded to a report of an injured pedestrian, who had been hit by a vehicle that then fled the scene on a gravel road, about one kilometre north of the community.

The pedestrian, a 41-year-old man from Ochapowace First Nation, was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP say they will not be releasing his name.

Traffic was detoured near the scene until early Sunday morning.
