Mark Docherty

Saskatchewan Party – Mark Docherty

Mark is the Saskatchewan Party candidate for the constituency of Regina Coronation Park, the area where he was born and spent his early life.

Mark currently works as an instructor at SIAST. He also recently worked as a member of the Transition Team in the Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration with the Government of Saskatchewan. He has also worked for the Saskatchewan Government in many other roles, including Director of Dales House, a Director of Immigration, a Supervisor for Health and a Team Leader at the Paul Dojack Youth Centre.

He has earned three degrees from the University of Regina, including a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Human Justice and a Masters of Social Work. His interest in education has also led Mark to teach several courses at the University of Regina and SIAST.

Mark is very involved in his community. He is currently on the Board of Street Culture Kids Project Inc. and has served on the Board of the North Central Community Association.

Mark was encouraged to run for the Saskatchewan Party because of their proactive approach to health care by being the first province in Canada to fund clinical trails for the Multiple Sclerosis Liberation Treatment. Last year, he traveled to Bulgaria to have the Liberation Treatment and is a strong advocate for these trails based on his personal experience.

Mark is deeply committed to representing Regina Coronation Park in the Provincial Legislature and welcomes the challenge of working for constituents in continuing to improve the Saskatchewan experience. Mark's broad range of education and experiences make him ideally suited to serve Regina Coronation Park families by helping them deal with the wide range of issues they are faced with and ensuring the area thrives.

Mark has also led a very physically active life. He has represented Saskatchewan at the provincial and national levels in team handball, rugby and lacrosse. He has competed in triathlons around the world and is a three-time finisher of the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon World Championships. the world and is a three-time finisher of the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon World Championships.

Jaime Garcia

NDP – Jaime Garcia

Jaime Garcia will represent the NDP in Regina Coronation Park in the 2011 provincial election.

Garcia was selected as the NDP candidate in Coronation Park in a vigorously contested five-candidate race on June 19, 20010, at Thom Collegiate.

Garcia is currently employed as a digital media designer with Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI). He is also a shop steward and executive member of the Canadian Office and Professional Employees (COPE) 397 union, a current member of the Regina Multisport Club and former board member of the Regina Soccer Association.

Garcia moved with his family from El Salvador to Saskatchewan in 1989, settling in the Regina Coronation Park constituency. He and his wife Kendra have three children.

Helmi Scott

Green Party – Helmi Scott

Helmi Scott was born, raised and educated in Alberta. She obtained a bachelor of science in chemistry and a masters in botany from the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She also holds a teaching certificate from the University of Calgary.

Most of her work experience was in Nigeria where she taught, among other things, education methodology, genetics, ecology, biology and botany.

She often took her students into the field for practical experience and was in charge of developing the biological garden at the Federal University of Technology in Yola, Nigeria.

Helmi retired in Regina upon her return to Canada in 1994, participating in the YMCA tutoring program and volunteering at the Arcola School, the Al Ritchie Family Support Centre and Health Action Centre.

She participated in several programs operated by the Anti-Poverty Ministry of Regina and the Anti-Poverty Coalition of Saskatoon.

Helmi has also been an active member of the Regina Citizens' Public Transit Coalition and is currently involved in organizing the Queen City Tenants Association.
