Saskatchewan Agriculture says early estimates suggest between 809,000 and 1.2 million hectares of farmland have been flooded and are unlikely to produce a crop.

Many producers on the east side of Saskatchewan are still dealing with high water and saturated fields after torrential rain nearly two weeks ago.

The weekly crop report says although weather conditions have improved, many crops have been significantly affected.

Shannon Friesen with Saskatchewan Agriculture says the situation could change as fields dry and damage is assessed, but she says the numbers are most likely to go up.

Friesen says a lot of canola is grown in the east-central area hit by flooding, while durham and pulse crops have been affected in the southeast.

Farmers in both eastern Saskatchewan and southern Manitoba say they have borne the brunt of damage from the flooding.
