The water treatment plant that serves the Regina and Moose Jaw areas is back up and running, but drinking water advisories remain in effect in some surrounding communities.

A power outage that shut down the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant around 2 p.m. Tuesday has been fixed, the City of Regina’s director of water works said Wednesday afternoon.

“At this time, things are returning to normal,” Pat Wilson told media at a news conference outside City Hall.

The city used its wells and reservoirs to maintain sufficient supply of water during the shutdown. Residents have been told they may notice a difference in water clarity over the next few days as the well water works its way through the system.

“People may notice a little bit of cloudiness in the water,” Wilson said. “The water is absolutely safe.”

Disley and some rural areas north of Moose Jaw remain under a precautionary drinking water advisory. Saskatchewan's Water Security Agency says the advisory won't be lifted for at least two more days.
