The RCMP Bomb Disposal Unit was called in to help the Moose Jaw Police dispose of a potentially susceptible and shock sensitive explosive Saturday morning.

Police say a container of Crystalized Organic Peroxide was dropped off at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection point on the 100 block of High Street West.

The substance was then identified as explosive and the container was quickly isolated in a safe zone.

The Moose Jaw Fire Department was unable to stabilize the substance with the tools the city had available, according to police.

The RCMP Bomb Disposal Unit was dispatched to the City Complex and moved the container to the city’s gravel yard on the 1100 block of High Street West.

Police say a safe, low-volume detonation was used to neutralize the material.
