Closing arguments were presented Monday in the Regina murder trial of three men accused of killing Shawn Douglas.

Joshua Wilson, 24, Dennis Thompson, 32, and Jonathon Peepeetch, 23, are all charged with first-degree murder in Douglas’ death.

After weeks of gut-wrenching testimony, the Crown closed its case with a fairly simple message for the jury: to some extent, all three of the accused played a role in forcing Douglas to go out into the woods northeast of the city, and that should be enough for a conviction.

However, lawyers for the three accused argued their clients did not all play equal roles.

The lawyer for Wilson argued there is no evidence his client ever even struck Douglas that night and pointed the finger at the other two accused.

But the lawyer for Peepeetch pointed the finger of blame at Wilson, noting the same witnesses who place the murder weapon in Peepeetch's hands are gang members who have to answer to and are willing to lie for Wilson.

The lawyer for Thompson also accused the gang members called as witnesses of trying to frame non-gang members.

The jury earlier heard that Thompson’s clothing did not have Douglas’ DNA on it, but clothing worn by Peepeetch and Wilson did.

The jury of six men and six women is expected begin deliberations Tuesday.
