Fake OxyContin pills that only a few months ago were blamed for causing several deaths in Saskatoon are now believed to have made their way to Moose Jaw.

Police issued a public warning following the suspected overdose of a 27-year-old man in Moose Jaw on Sunday, which is believed to have been caused by the fake drug.

Police say the round, blue-green coloured pills with the number 80 on them may be being sold as OxyContin, but are actually fentanyl.

Fentanyl is a powerful, synthetic opiate similar to heroin.

Police continue to investigate if the fake pills are related to the death in Moose Jaw, and they’re asking anyone with information on the fake drugs to contact them.
