Investigators say a natural gas leak caused a garage fire at a south Regina home that sent one person to hospital with minor injuries.

At 8:30 p.m. Thursday, fire and EMS crews responded to the scene on the corner of Parliament Avenue and Taggart Place.

A second person in the home escaped the fire uninjured.

Two cars were destroyed in the blaze but firefighters were able to stop the flames from spreading to other buildings.

Around 1 a.m. Friday, SaskEnergy crews found a natural gas line break in the alley behind the garage. They quickly stopped the leak and repaired the line.

Fire investigators believe the natural gas seeped through the soil into the garage, causing the fire.

The underground gas leak is among three others that were reported in south Regina in recent weeks. One resulted in an explosion at a home on Shannon Road that sent two people to hospital, one of them with serious injuries, early last month.
