Officials say a raging grass fire west of Regina is under control.

The blaze broke out near the Canadian Pacific Railway mainline between Grand Coulee and Pense on Monday afternoon.

The fire quickly spread as southern winds gusting up to 20 kilometres an hour fanned the flames.

Regina firefighters helped crews from Grand Coulee contain the fire, which officials say was difficult to reach because of wet, muddy conditions.

The fire burned a large area, but no one was injured and no structures were damaged.

It’s believed that the fire may have started somewhere along the train tracks. The cause is under investigation.
