A man is dead after he slipped and fell on a highway and was hit by a semi while he and his friend were walking to get help after their vehicle became stuck.

RCMP say the two men were driving from Calgary to Regina on the Trans-Canada Highway when their vehicle slid into the ditch Thursday night near Parkbeg, Sask.

The men were walking along the highway to get help when one of the men fell on the highway and became unconscious just as the semi was cresting a small hill.

Mounties say the driver of the semi couldn’t stop or swerve and hit the man, killing him. The victim’s name isn’t being released.

No foul play is suspected at this point in the investigation.
