A 23-year-old Yorkton man is dead after the car he was driving crashed in the city early Friday morning.

RCMP were called to the single-vehicle collision at the intersection of Gladstone Avenue and Independent Street around 1:15 a.m.

Mounties say it appears the car was travelling northbound on Gladstone Avenue when the driver lost control and struck a power pole. The pole was dislodged by the impact and the car came to rest in some nearby bushes.

The driver of the car died at the scene. His family has been notified and his name will not be released at this time, RCMP said.

A 15-year-old boy from the Keeseekoose First Nation who was a passenger in the vehicle was taken to hospital and has since been released.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
