The owner of a pit bull that was shot and killed by Regina police over the weekend says he’s going to seek legal action.

Peter Cote says there were signs on his property indicating a dog lived there, and that the animal didn't attack.

However, Regina police say the pit bull began fighting with a police dog and that the two officers – who were in Cote’s backyard searching for a suspect in an unrelated assault – feared for their safety.

Neither the officers nor the police dog were injured.
