A 36-year-old man who RCMP say was swept into Last Mountain Lake rescuing two other people is believed to have drowned.

Emergency crews were called to an area on Last Mountain Lake, near the village of Pelican Pointe, Sask. just after 7 p.m. Friday.

Two men, a 38-year-old and a 36-year-old, as well as a 10-year-old boy were fishing off a point that extends into the lake.

The boy and the 38-year-old were swept into the lake after strong winds caused by an approaching storm created waves over five feet tall, according to RCMP. The 36-year-old, who police identified as Travis Kruszelnicki of Regina, was swept in while trying to help the other two to shore.

The 38-year-old and the boy made it to shore, but Kruszelnicki is still missing, police said. He is presumed drowned.

Southey RCMP alongside RCMP police dog units, provincial conservation officers and civilian searchers were unsuccessful in finding Kruszelnicki Friday night. A collision reconstructionist as well as an unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with a heat-sensing camera also helped with the search.

An RCMP underwater recovery team were set to attend the scene Saturday to continue searching.

The missing man’s family has been notified, police said. His name has yet to be released.

Pelican Pointe is located about 50 kilometres northwest of Regina.
