The Regina Police Service has temporarily removed its Facebook page following a barrage of hateful, profane and threatening posts in the wake of the police shooting of a pit bull over the weekend.

In a statement on their website, police said they were “deeply saddened” by some of the comments that were being made on their Facebook page over the past day.

The Regina Police Service website and Twitter feed will remain in use.

The move comes after the Regina Police Association raised concerns about some of the posts on the Facebook page and the force's policy on the social media site.
