The Saskatchewan Provincial Constituency Boundaries Commission has released its interim report on the government’s proposed plan to add three new MLAs.

In the report, the commission recommends creating another constituency in Regina and adding two more in Saskatoon.

Under the proposal, the constituencies of Regina Dewdney and Regina Qu’Appelle Valley would be eliminated, and three new ones would be created.

They include Regina Gardiner Park in the city’s east end, Regina Pasqua in the southwest and Regina Rochdale in the northwest.

In Saskatoon, the constituencies of Saskatoon Greystone and Saskatoon Northwest would be eliminated, while two others would be merged to form the new constituency of Saskatoon Silverspring-Sutherland.

Meanwhile, five new constituencies would be created, including Saskatoon Churchill-Wildwood, Saskatoon Spadina, Saskatoon Stonebridge-Dakota, Saskatoon University and Saskatoon Willowgrove.

The changes would increase the total number of constituencies in the city to 14 from 12.

The commission will hold seven public hearings across the province between Sept. 4 and 12. Anyone who wants to make a presentation to the commission must submit written notice and summary 15 days before the hearing.
