A 37-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman are in hospital with serious injuries after a crash on Ring Road near Ross Avenue on Monday morning.

Officers were called to a collision between a Honda Civic and a courier truck around 8:50 a.m. Both vehicles ended up in the southbound ditch of Ring Road. Upon arrival, police say a man was trying to talk to the woman inside the car. Another man told police he was an off-duty firefighter. The doors of the car could not be opened, and the officer had to use his baton to break the back window of the car and stabilize the two people inside until Regina Fire and Protective Services arrived.

According to police, it appears the Civic was travelling northbound when it crossed the ditch and collided with the courier truck in the southbound lane. Police are currently investigating why the Civic lost control. The driver of the truck did not need to be taken to hospital.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash should contact police at 306-777-6500.
