Police used a Taser on a 46-year-old Regina man on Monday after he allegedly attempted to evade police.

The incident started around 11:30 p.m. when a man reportedly refused to stop his vehicle when instructed to do so by officers. Police say the man fled from his vehicle and a foot chase began between officers and the man on the 2200 block of Halifax Street.

The suspect ran back to his car and attempted to drive away. Police instructed him to stop, but they say he did not. At that point they deployed the Taser.

Police searched the suspect and found that he had a loaded gun, bear spray and drugs in his possession.

The man was taken into custody without incident.

The use of the Taser will be reviewed by a use of force committee within the Regina Police Service and reported to the Saskatchewan Police Commission.
