REGINA - The bells rang at the Saskatchewan legislature Thursday to summon politicians for the last time before a provincial election this fall.

Premier Brad Wall says the budget with infrastructure investments was the highlight of the legislative session.

Opposition NDP Leader Dwain Lingenfelter says his party used the session to raise policy issues, such as rent control.

Both Wall and Lingenfelter are gearing up for the Nov. 7 vote and plan to unofficially hit the campaign trail this summer.

It was also the final day at the legislature for seven retiring politicians, including former finance minister Rod Gantefoer and New Democrat Pat Atkinson.

Gantefoer was one of the founding members of the governing Saskatchewan Party and Atkinson is the longest-serving female MLA in Saskatchewan history with 25 years experience.
