Charges have been laid against three teens who were arrested after a standoff near downtown Regina earlier this week.

Police say two boys, ages 16 and 17, and a 14-year-old girl are charged with robbery with a weapon and possession of stolen property under $5,000.

The two boys are also charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. In addition, the 16-year-old is charged with evading police.

The three teens, who cannot be named, made their first court appearances Wednesday.

Police say two youths – one reportedly armed with a gun, the other with a knife – stole a car on Arens Road early Tuesday morning.

Police followed the car, along another vehicle that was also believed to have been stolen, out of the city and back.

Officers later found one of the cars abandoned on Quance Street and arrested a 17-year-old boy who was hiding nearby. The other car was found abandoned on 15th Avenue.

Investigators tracked the two suspects to a townhouse in the 2700 block of 15th Avenue. Police negotiators and a tactical team were among the 30 emergency responders on the scene.

About 25 minutes later, five people emerged from the home and were taken into custody.
