REGINA - The Saskatchewan government says there's been lots of speculation, but no confirmation on whether Ottawa might kick in cash to help build a proposed domed stadium in Regina.

Sources tell The Canadian Press the federal Conservatives are considering changes to the national gas-tax fund so Quebec City can use the money to build its arena.

The fund was designed to pay for municipal infrastructure such as roads - not to build sports facilities.

Ken Cheveldayoff, Saskatchewan's minister responsible for a proposed multi-purpose facility, says he's encouraged when he hears talk about potential funding.

But Cheveldayoff says it's his understanding that the gas-tax cash is already allocated.

The clock is ticking for the province.

There are concerns the projected $430-million dollar cost in a feasibility study done last year could rise.

Cheveldayoff says the province needs to hear "something of substance" from Ottawa before the end of February.
