Flooding concerns have forced about 50 people from their homes on the Poundmaker First Nation in west-central Saskatchewan.

The band declared a state of emergency as the rising Cut Knife Creek threatened to sever road access to the reserve.

A Saskatchewan government spokesperson says the evacuated residents are currently being put up in hotel rooms in surrounding communities.

Similar flooding issues prompted the Onion Lake First Nation, located 50 kilometres north of Lloydminster, to declare a verbal state of emergency.

The rural municipalities of Great Bend and Elfros have also declared states of emergency, mainly due to flooding on roads.

Maidstone, Radisson and Borden remained under states of emergency Tuesday as provincial crews and local volunteers pumped water to help protect the communities.

Officials say 50 homes are at risk of flooding in Radisson but so far, none have been evacuated.

The Water Security Agency says while Tuesday’s snowfall will add to the spring runoff, cooler temperatures have helped to slow the melt.
