Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for the Regina area saying conditions are favourable in the region for funnel clouds.

A funnel cloud was spotted around 12:45 p.m. near Aylesbury, north of Moose Jaw. Environment Canada says there have been other clouds spotted northeast of Regina since then, including the one pictured above that was spotted on Highway 10 between Balgonie and Fort Qu'Appelle around 2:00 p.m.

These kinds of clouds are generated by weak rotation under rapidly growing clouds or weak thunderstorms. They rarely touch the ground, but there is a small chance that they could intensify and become a weak landspout tornado.

Landspout tornados are weaker than full blown tornados, but they can still be strong enough to topple trees, damage roofs, or toss debris a short distance.
