Hundreds of officials marched down Albert Street on Sunday to pay tribute to their fallen comrades.

The Canadian Police and Peace Officers memorial is held on the last Sunday of September every year. Officers from coast to coast, and as far away as the U.K., took part in this year's ceremony to remember their fallen colleagues.

The service honoured all of Canada’s fallen officers, but in particular, the five officers killed in the line of duty this year.

Constables Douglas Larche, Dave Ross, and Fabrice Gevaudan, the three Mounties killed in a shooting in Moncton in June, were among those remembered, as well as John Zivicic, an officer who was killed in a car accident in Toronto, and Justin Knackstedt, a Saskatoon conservation officer, lost his life while directing traffic this past May.

In Ottawa, thousands of police and peace officers from across Canada gathered at Parliament Hill.

The family members of the five officers honoured this year were also there, laying wreaths at the steps of Parliament Hill in memory of their loved ones.

The perimeter wall along Parliament Hill has the names of police and peace officers who were killed in the line of duty, including those who were honoured on Sunday. To date, there are more than 840 names engraved on the wall.
