The government has declared Sept. 6 to be Kenny Shields Day in Saskatchewan.

Shields rose to fame with his band Streetheart in the 70’s and 80’s. They earned six gold albums, a double platinum album, a gold single and multiple awards.

Shields, who was born in Nokomis, Sask. is widely considered to be one of the bestselling recording artists to come from the province. He passed away on July 21, 2017 in Winnipeg.

As part of the proclamation for Kenny Shields day, Minister Christine Tell wrote “I request the citizens of the Province of Saskatchewan to recognize this day.”

Sept. 6 was selected to recognize Shields in the province because he will have been returned to his home province by that time.
