A man has been sentenced to 10 years in jail after he admitted to causing the death of another man in a February crash in Regina.
With credit for time on remand, Jordan McNabb will spend just over nine years in prison. He will also be prohibited from driving for a period of 20 years.
McNabb, 22, earlier pleaded guilty to four charges, including criminal negligence causing death, in the Feb. 20 collision that killed 68-year-old John Boxall of Regina.
Court heard McNabb, then 21, had been drinking before he recklessly drove a stolen pickup truck through the city.
The truck broadsided Boxall’s vehicle, which was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Arcola Avenue and Park Street.
Boxall was partially ejected from the vehicle by the force of the collision, and his body was dragged along with the wreck as it slammed into other vehicles.
A collision analyst concluded that McNabb was driving nearly 80 kilometres an hour over the speed limit at the time of the crash.
