The Mouly family has gotten an early Christmas present. Six years ago their cat, Whiskers, wandered off the family farm near Balgonie – and they haven't seen him since. Sean Mouly didn't think they ever would.

"We thought for sure, there's no way he would last that long. But I guess if somebody took him in, or he ended up on a farm," Mouly said.

"If you could only find out the story, if he could talk."

Whiskers arrived at the Regina Humane Society a few weeks ago. He had been picked up as a stray, but it looks like he's been taken care of.

Staff at the Humane Society identified him by a tattoo in his ear, and called up the Mouly family, who had adopted him from the shelter seven years ago.

Nine-year-old Keigan Mouly was excited to see his feline friend come home for Christmas.

"Oh my god, that's actually Whiskers," he said. "He's coming home for Christmas."

Don Simons of the Regina Humane Society says this is a good example of why people should make sure to get their pets tattooed or micro-chipped.

"Things like collars will fall off, and licenses will fall off. When they have the tattoo and the microchip, they're going to have that for their whole life," Simons explained.
