Residents in Regina’s inner city now have more access to health care in their own neighbourhood.

Thursday the provincial government and the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region opened the Meadow Primary Health Care Centre on the 4,000 block of Dewdney Avenue, across from the Pasqua Hospital.

The new centre will provide primary health care service to Regina’s core neighbourhoods, as well as Regina Beach, Southey and Cupar. The centre is one of eight new facilities opening following Saskatchewan’s Primary Health Care Framework announced in 2012, and focuses on team-based care to make better experiences for patients.

“Today’s opening is a celebration of a new approach to primary health care,” Provincial Health Minister Dustin Duncan said in a press release. “Health care will be provided in a way that better meets the needs of patients, health providers and the surrounding community. “

The building was bought by a group of doctors, and the renovation costs were shared by physicians, the health region, and the ministry of health.

The Meadow will officially open on July 2.
