The City of Regina is installing new traffic lights at three intersections to help improve pedestrian safety.

The intersections will be equipped with rectangular rapid flashing beacons. The LED solar-powered flashing beacons are pedestrian-activated. The city says they’re designed to bring drivers’ attention to pedestrians.

The new flashing beacons will be installed at the intersections of 13th Avenue and Scarth Street, Victoria Avenue and McIntyre Street, and Saskatchewan Drive and Smith Street.

City crews are expected to have the beacons installed by the end of August and testing of the pilot project will wrap up in 2018.
