Two Mount Royal University flight instructors killed in Monday's plane crash in southern Alberta have been identified.

Jeffrey Bird, 35, joined the university in January after working with the Royal Canadian Air Force at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

He was also a pilot with the 408 Tactical Helicopter Squadron in Edmonton and served in Afghanistan.

The second victim -- Reynold Johnson -- had a 35-year career with Air Canada and then Jazz.

Mount Royal's aviation program has been grounded while the crash northwest of Cochrane is investigated.
