Regina police are advising the public to be on the lookout for a suspicious man after a possible attempted abduction Friday afternoon.

Police were called to the University of Regina College Avenue campus shortly before 2 p.m. A 10-year-old girl was allegedly grabbed by a man before she broke free, according to a Regina police media release.

The girl was with a group walking from the Conservatory Building to Darke Hall, but she was some distance behind the others. The unknown man reportedly called out to her and, when she approached, he grabbed her by the arm.

She escaped unharmed and ran to inform authorities, including campus security, who contacted police.

Police and security officers were unable to locate the suspect. His motive is unknown at this time, police said, but officers are investigating the incident as a possible attempted abduction.

The suspect is described as a Caucasian man between 50 and 65 years old. He is about five-foot-nine tall with a medium build. He had a scruffy, patchy beard and collar-length, combed-back, greyish-black hair, according to police. He was wearing jogging clothes and runners.

Anyone with information about the incident or information that could help police identify and locate the suspect is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
