The Saskatchewan government has decided to scale back SaskPower’s proposed rate hike for 2015.

SaskPower’s conditionally approved five per cent rate increase has been reduced to three per cent, the province announced Wednesday.

The average residential customer will see their monthly bill increase by $3, starting Jan. 1, 2015.

Bill Boyd, the minister responsible for SaskPower, says the rate hike has been reduced because the Crown utility is now forecasting a better financial outlook for next year.

The government also approved a 5.5 per cent rate increase that took effect on Jan. 1, 2014.
