City council will consider an application to open a strip club in Regina at its meeting Monday night.

A group that includes church representatives is opposed to the proposal on moral and religious grounds and plans to voice its concerns to council ahead of the vote.

The proposed establishment would be located at 1047 Park Street in the former Whiskey Saloon.

That location complies with the city’s zoning bylaw, which states that strip clubs have to be at least 182.88 metres or 600 feet from homes, schools and parks.

If approved, the strip club would be the first to open under new provincial regulations that came into effect last January. The new rules allow alcohol to be served during stripteases and wet clothing contests at licenced establishments.
