Graffiti is a common problem in many neighbourhoods, but a Regina family says a recent act of vandalism in his Glencairn is more than just a nuisance.

A number of racial slurs and white supremacist markings were painted on fences and garages in a back alley near their home, and even on the equipment at the local playground.

Charles Kooger and his wife have lived in Glencairn for 15 years. They have adopted children from countries all over the world. He says the vandalism feels personal to his family, and the issue needs to be addressed.

Kooger is concerned that the results of the American election could be having a negative impact in Regina.

“I think that with some of the heightened rhetoric south of the border, there are some groups that feel empowered,” Kooger told CTV News on Wednesday. “White supremacists feel like maybe they have time in the sun, but it’s not a good thing. It’s not the way I want my city to be.”

Kooger says they have been in touch with the city, and they are taking the issue seriously.
